Continental Announces Tire Safety Recall of 9,988 Van Tires in Canada

MISSISSAUGA, ON. – May 7, 2021. Continental today announced a voluntary recall program involving 9,988 Continental brand van tires that were produced at several of the company’s European plants and sold to the aftermarket.

In winter conditions, VanContact 4Season tires do not meet the minimum snow traction requirements of Canadian regulations. All tires marked with a three-peak mountain snowflake symbol in Canada must meet these winter traction requirements. The subject tires may not provide the expected traction in severe snow weather conditions, which may increase the risk of a crash. Continental has not received any reports of accidents or injuries resulting from this condition and the company believes 9,988 of these tires may not comply with Canadian regulations.

Transport Canada approved the recall on May 4, 2021. The company is in communication with the dealers to support notification of customers who purchased these tires. Owners will be promptly notified and informed about the details of the voluntary safety recall program.
