Tire Industry Project Welcomes New Affiliate Members

Growing membership set to strengthen delivery of TIP sustainability mission

The Tire Industry Project (TIP) has announced that it has welcomed the Australian Tyre Industry Council (ATIC), the British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (BTMA), and the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) of India as Affiliate Members.

TIP Affiliate Members engage with TIP to strengthen the global tire industry’s issue sensing and engagement on topics within the scope of TIP’s Mission, but do not contribute to the governance of the Project.

“We are pleased to welcome ATIC, ATMA and BTMA to our growing network,” said TIP Executive Director, Larisa Kryachkova. “Tire Trade Associations are instrumental to the realization of a sustainable tire value-chain, and their regional expertise and insights are invaluable in understanding regulatory developments and offering global approaches to tire lifecycle sustainability. TIP builds strength with an increasingly diverse membership that is united by a vision of a world in which the tire value chain has a positive impact on people and the planet​.”

TIP is actively expanding its membership to continue to deliver upon its mission of anticipating understanding, and addressing global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues relevant to the tire industry and its value chain.  ATIC, ATMA and BTMA join the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA), the Japan Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association (JATMA), the Korea Tire Manufacturers Association (KOTMA), the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) and the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), who were named as Affiliate Members in January 2023.

TIP was formed in 2005 with the commitment to a science-driven and collaborative approach to tire-sector sustainability. In February 2022, TIP announced an evolution of its commitment to sustainability, which included a renewed mission, an updated governance structure and the active recruitment of new members.

Built upon the pillars of research, action and engagement and communication, the updated organizational structure and work program complements TIP’s sustainability-driven program of scientific research and other projects with enhanced action, stakeholder engagement and communication across a suite of ongoing and new projects relevant to ESG in the tire sector. This includes a focus on tire-emission research and mitigation, end-of-life tire management and more effective sustainability assessments.

“The Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA), India, is excited to join TIP as an Affiliate Member. TIP’s workplan, with an enhanced focus on sustainability-driven topics of interest and relevance to the global tire industry, such as end-of-life tires and tire abrasion, will provide an excellent platform for discussion and research on areas of common interest as well as for best-practice sharing among stakeholders. We look forward to being a part of TIP discussions to address key ESG challenges and issues faced by the global tire industry,” said Anshuman Singhania, Chairman, ATMA.
