With winter just around the corner and the B.C. law requiring winter tires on designated routes coming into effect on October 1, the provincial initiative — Shift Into Winter Campaign— led by the Winter Driving Safety Alliance and managed by Road Safety at Work, is preparing drivers for what’s ahead in the coming months.

Winter tires are an investment in safety — for you, your family and friends, and others sharing roads in Nelson and around the Central Kootenays.
Winter tires provide better traction and stopping performance than summer tires in cold temperatures and on wet, snowy, and icy roads. And traction may be the difference between safely driving on winter roads and being involved in a serious crash.
Winter tires or chains are also required on many highways in B.C. from October 1 to March 31. …
