Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has published a Notice with respect to the Code of Practice for the Environmentally Sound Management of Chemical Substances in the Chemicals, Plastics and Rubber Sectors in the Canada Gazette, Part I on February 24, 2024.
The purpose of the Code is to provide guidance on best practices to manufacturers, formulators and distributors in the chemicals, plastics and rubber sectors to prevent releases of chemical substances to the environment.
In addition to providing general guidance to all facilities in the targeted sectors, ECCC intends to use the Code to complement risk management instruments for some substances assessed to be toxic under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, such as chlorhexidine and its salts (risk management instrument published November 21, 2022).
The Code and responses to comments received during the 60-day public consultation period can be found on the Code of Practice webpage.
If you have questions on this initiative, please send them by email to [email protected].
