New TIP-supported Study Improves Understanding of 6PPD-Q

A new TIP-supported study is helping improve our understanding of 6PPD-Q, a transformation product linked to tire wear. Published in the journal Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, the laboratory-based study found that 6PPD-Q:

  • Is not persistent in most aerobic environments based on established criteria, breaking down faster in oxygen-rich water
  • Persists longer in low-oxygen conditions, degrading much less without oxygen

Why this matters: Quantitative insights like these contribute to improving environmental exposure models and support science-based assessments of tire wear-related substances.
