Bridgestone plans to finish developing a new technology for recycling tires as early as 2030 in a bid to reduce the carbon footprint in the automotive supply chain.
The Tokyo-based company aims use a process of chemical recycling that breaks tire materials down to the molecular level for reuse. Tires are first melted, and compounds are decomposed using catalysts at regulated temperatures.
Bridgestone believes that this process will be able to recycle about 100,000 tonnes of tires a year, or about 10% of those annually disposed of in Japan. …
