Global leading tire company Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook Tire) has earned the FIA Three Star Environmental Accreditation from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the highest level of environmental and sustainability certification.
The FIA Environmental Accreditation is a certification program designed to promote environmental management and sustainability in motorsports and the mobility sector. It evaluates factors such as environmental performance, energy consumption reduction, logistics efficiency improvements, waste management optimization, and the implementation of carbon neutrality programs.
Hankook Tire was recognized for its active involvement in sustainability initiatives, including climate change initiatives, as the exclusive tire supplier and official sponsor of the FIA Formula E World Championship electric vehicle racing series.
Hankook Tire has also focused on sustainably transforming the entire tire value chain into a circular loop — from raw material procurement to production and post-use recycling — to supply tires for Formula E.
The company conducts Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) across all stages, from raw material sourcing to manufacturing, transportation, and recycling, while meeting new standards in carbon footprint tracking throughout its production facilities, processes, and logistics.
Meanwhile, Hankook Tire continues its unwavering efforts to enhance sustainability within the global tire industry. In 2021, its Geumsan plant in Korea became the first in the tire industry to obtain ISCC PLUS certification, followed by its plant in Hungary, receiving the same certification in October 2023. Additionally, in August 2023, Hankook Tire became the first company in the Korean tire industry to have its mid- to long-term greenhouse gas reduction goals for achieving “Net Zero by 2050” approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This demonstrates the company’s commitment to implementing tangible measures that aim to reduce carbon emissions.
