High-Tech Vehicle, High-Tech Tire

Hankook’s Ventus S1 evo 3 ev pushes the EV performance envelope.

Designing tires for battery electric vehicles isn’t as straightforward as it might seem. EVs have different weight, handling and power characteristics than your typical internal combustion engine vehicle.

To begin with, current EVs are typically heavier than their conventional powertrain counterparts. For example, Audi’s e-Tron GT four-door gran turismo has a curb weight of 2,295kg (5060 lbs), which is significantly heavier than most ICE passenger cars its size (for example, Audi’s nearest conventional equivalent, the A7, weighs 1965 kg/4332 lbs).
