Ontario Government Consulting on Proposed Amendments to the Tires Regulations

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) has proposed amendments to the following regulations under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA).

  • Tires Regulation (O. Reg. 225/18)
  • Batteries Regulation (O. Reg. 30/20)
  • Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) Regulation (O. Reg. 522/20)
  • Hazardous and Special Products (HSP) Regulation (O. Reg. 449/21)

The proposed changes aim to reduce unnecessary burden on the industries involved, while continuing to protect both the environment and consumers. These amendments are designed to maintain the efficiency of Ontario’s producer responsibility framework, support waste diversion from landfills, and simplify requirements, offering greater flexibility to industry stakeholders.

The proposed amendments are now open for public consultation on the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) for 45 days, from September 5, 2024, to October 20, 2024.

For more details or to provide feedback, visit the ERO page here.
