Pirelli Takes 27,500 Hours to Develop New Formula 1 Tires

… Pirelli recently extended its contract with F1, so it will play a significant role in the development of a new era of cars.

To give you some idea of how much development is needed, when the sport went from 13- to 18-inch tires for the 2022 season, Pirelli spent 10,000 hours of indoor testing and 5,000 hours on the simulator to develop 70 possible prototypes categorized into 30 specifications.

The tires are then handed to the teams, who spent more than 12,500 hours testing these tires. Once the final selection is made, the tires are tested at Grands Prix held later in the season. …
