This Town Made a Road Out of Scrap Tires and Changed the Future of Driving

At UC Davis, a short stretch of roadway became a testing ground for new pavement mixes built partly from discarded tires. Researchers repaved just over a mile using asphalt that blends recycled rubber with reclaimed road material. That choice connects waste reduction with real infrastructure rather than laboratory samples. As crews finished the surface, attention moved toward how the road behaves under regular use.
