Giti Tire has been hailed a Giga-Guru by Walmart, one of the largest companies in the world by revenue, in the Walmart 2023 Gigaton Survey.
Sustainability is an essential consideration in every aspect of Giti’s business, and many international companies, like Walmart, have recognised Giti’s efforts to minimise our impact on the environment. The Giga-Guru recognition places Giti among the top 20% of Walmart’s suppliers, recognising our work towards becoming carbon neutral and reducing our environmental impact.
Project Gigaton is Walmart’s initiative to engage suppliers in climate action with the aim at reducing the generation of 1 billion metric tons (or 1 gigaton) of greenhouse gases (GHG) from the global value chain by 2030. Through an in-depth questionnaire, Walmart evaluates its suppliers’ contribution toward this sustainability goal.
As a leader in the global tire industry, Giti has set SMART goals to track our efforts while proactively incorporating sustainable actions into our processes, reducing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Giti has been able to avoid the generation of more than 80,000 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide equivalents (CO2e) through reusing, recycling and repurposing operational waste. We also have been sourcing for more sustainable natural rubber, that is a key component in our tires.
Moving along our production line, we have realized a GHG saving of more than 31,000 metric tons of CO2e by optimising the load and distance of our supply chain.
Passing on savings to consumers, Giti has a range of low rolling resistance tires, like GSL229 FS and GSL633 FS, which are also verified by SmartWay. These low rolling resistance tires feature reduced energy loss when in transit, helping drivers reduce their fuel usage. This low rolling resistance technology will also be integrated into our passenger car tire range, creating products that help to save energy, especially with the increasing presence of electric vehicles all around the world.
“Giti is honoured to receive this award in recognition of our efforts and are committed as a proactive supplier in Walmart’s Project Gigaton,” commented Dr Pang, Chief Sustainability Officer at Giti Tire. “On our own, Giti is committed to a 30% reduction in our Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero by 2050, and we will continue to work with our suppliers and customers to reduce our impact along the entire tire value chain.”
