Goodyear Powers Team De Rooy in the 2024 Dakar Rally

Goodyear reaffirms its partnership with Team De Rooy for the upcoming Dakar 2024 rally. As their official tire supplier, Goodyear will support the Dutch team with high-performance offroad tires and tire management solutions throughout every stage of the competition. Goodyear’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) will be deployed by Team De Rooy to monitor tire temperature and pressure levels in real time, ensuring swift responses to challenges and minimizing downtime.

Dakar 2024 route: a thrilling journey awaits

From January 5 to January 19, 2024, the Dakar rally will kick off in AlUla, winding its way across the expansive landscapes of Saudi Arabia, culminating in Yanbu on the Red Sea coast. The 14-day event, encompassing 1 prologue and 12 stages, covers a formidable distance of 5,000 kilometers. Notably, 60% of the route comprises entirely new sections, promising a fresh and challenging experience for participants.

In the 2024 Dakar edition, Team De Rooy will field three trucks, each geared up for victory:

  • #600 Boss Machinery Team De Rooy FPT: Pilot/Driver Janus van Kasteren Jr., Navigator Marcel Snijders, and Mechanic Darek Rodewald aim to defend their title.
  • #622 Becx Competition Team De Rooy FPT: Pilot/Driver Michiel Becx, Navigator Edwin Kuijpers, and Mechanic Wuf van Ginkel, winners of the Rallye du Maroc 2023, are primed for another triumph.
  • #618 Ladies Team De Rooy FPT: Driver Anja van Loon, Navigator Floor Maten, and Mechanic Marije van Ettekoven make history as the first Dutch women’s team in the Dakar Rally, following their successful collaboration in the Rally du Maroc.

Goodyear tires and TPMS: paving the way for victory

Recognizing the important role tires play in the Dakar challenge, Team De Rooy has once again chosen Goodyear OFFROAD tires. Compliant with competition regulations, these tires offer robustness and superior traction across various terrains, including sand, rocks, steep inclines, and descents. The Goodyear OFFROAD tire’s design reducesheat generation at high speeds, supporting durability in extreme conditions such as Saudi Arabia deserts.

Goodyear TPMS will be also seamlessly integrated into Team De Rooy trucks, providing continuous monitoring of tire pressure and temperature. This integration will empower the team to dynamically adjust their rally strategy based on real-time assessments of road conditions and tire performance. The advanced solutions not only assist in tracking tire temperature and pressure levels but are also instrumental in enabling the team to respond promptly to some challenges that may arise, thereby reducing the risk of extended downtime. This is crucial, as downtime could potentially result in the loss of precious time throughout the entirety of the rally.

Goodyear’s commitment to truck motorsport

Goodyear’s support for Team De Rooy at the 2024 Dakar Rally underscores the company’s enduring commitment to truck motorsport. As the official title sponsor of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC), the collaboration with Team De Rooy further showcases Goodyear’s dedication to the thrill of truck racing. This partnership not only underscores Goodyear’s enduring dedication to the excitement of truck racing but also positions it as a frontrunner in utilizing the challenges of the truck racing arena as a testing ground for advancing tire technologies and product development.

Maciej Szymański, Marketing Director Commercial Europe at Goodyear: “We are looking forward to our cooperation around Dakar 2024. Our OFFROAD tires combined with Goodyear TPMS will support De Rooy Team in the extreme and challenging conditions of this year’s edition of this legendary rally. We wish them all the best. The role played by Goodyear tires and TPMS was very important in securing Team De Rooy’s victory last year. Drawing on this triumph, we eagerly anticipate a similarly exceptional performance in the upcoming Dakar, highlighting our dedication to providing unwavering support for Team De Rooy.”
