Toyo Tire Corporation (Headquarters: Itami City, Hyogo Prefecture; President & CEO: Takashi Shimizu; hereinafter, “Toyo Tire”) announces that two of its plants in Japan have received certification under ISCC PLUS,1 one of the international certification schemes for sustainable products. The newly certified plants are the Sendai Plant (located in Iwanuma City, Miyagi Prefecture), which is Toyo Tire’s main domestic tire manufacturing site and the plant of Fukushima Rubber Co., Ltd. (located in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture), which is Toyo Tire’s manufacturing subsidiary.
Toyo Tire aims to increase sustainable raw materials2 as a percentage of the raw materials used in its products3 to 40% by 2030 and 100% by 2050. The two plants that received certification can now handle certified raw materials in compliance with the mass balance approach.4 Looking ahead, Toyo Tire will continue systematically increasing its use of sustainable raw materials including those that are certified.
Aware that every action in its business is linked to society and the future, Toyo Tire regards mitigation of environmental impact as one of the highest priorities in pursuing its business activities and aims to contribute to making societies sustainable globally. Toyo Tire will take this ISCC PLUS certification as an opportunity to reinforce its measures promoting decarbonization and a circular economy, thereby boosting corporate value.
