From decarbonization to next generation materials, sustainability will be a key focus for many of the technical presentations held during Rubber News’ International Tire Exhibition & Conference (ITEC) on Sept. 13-15, 2022, at the John S. Knight Center in Akron, Ohio. As the largest tire manufacturing exhibition and conference in the U.S., ITEC is a biennial event that provides professionals from all areas of the tire industry with the latest research and data related to tire manufacturing, including testing and performance.
Presentations will cover all aspects of sustainability in tire manufacturing, from the use of sustainable materials and processes to the impact of the circular economy on the industry. Additional conference topics will cover autonomous tire production, nano cellulose-based reinforcing fillers, carbon black, next generation RFID, high-speed uniformity testing, tire monitoring, trends in winter tire materials, innovations in elastomers and much more.
Keynote presentations will also have a sustainability focus. On Tuesday, Sept. 13, Ellis Jones, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company will present a keynote address sharing insights into Goodyear’s sustainability journey. Anne Forristall Luke, President and CEO of the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association, will deliver the keynote on Wednesday, Sept. 14, discussing the industry’s economic outlook as well as a few of its most pressing sustainability priorities, including industry efforts to reduce CO2 emissions; advance sustainable and circular markets for scrap tire markets; and incorporating the use of recycled and renewable materials into new tires. Conference early bird rates are available through July 15. View the full agenda here.
Attendees can also register to join the ITEC Women’s Breakfast and Seminar on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. With the goal of helping nurture the career growth of female professionals, the session will feature Terry DeLapa, former chair of the ACS Rubber Division, who will detail her personal journey to success in a male-dominated profession and offer valuable insights into how attendees can achieve success in today’s changing workplace. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion where leaders from tire manufacturing and service companies will discuss the latest trends, their views of the workplace and how they have established their personal identity within a corporate environment. A $45 fee applies to attend this session and includes a continental breakfast.
n addition, a five-day Tire Mechanics Short Course will run concurrently with ITEC. The educational and developmental course will be held Sept. 12-16 and will provide engineers and scientists with an in-depth, intense study of developments surrounding tire and polymer engineering. The course is designed for practicing engineers, chemists and scientists concerned with tires and vehicles, and those who have an engineering or science background at the bachelor of science level. Those who complete the course will receive a certificate from The University of Akron.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, show organizers will present the Harold Herzlich Distinguished Technology Achievement Medal. Named after Harold Herzlich, a longtime technical editor of Rubber News, the honor recognizes innovators in tire manufacturing, tire reliability or performance. This year’s winner will receive a medal, a $1,500 honorarium and up to $1,000 in travel costs to attend ITEC 2022. The honoree will deliver a special keynote presentation on the morning of Sept. 15.
Registration for ITEC 2022 is open online and provides free entry to the exhibition through August 12. Starting August 13, a $50 exhibition entrance fee will apply. View the registration fees for the conference, Women’s Breakfast and Seminar and Tire Mechanics Short Course, here.
The event features dozens of suppliers and manufacturers to the tire industry, including VMI Group (corporate sponsor), L&T Rubber Processing Machinery (technical sponsor), Aerocom Systems, Cimcorp Automation, DRI Rubber and UMD Automated Systems.
