…Advances in engine technology and the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) have driven declines in tailpipe emissions. Yet, the attention on both exhaust and non-exhaust emissions (from tyres, brakes and the road surface) continues to grow – the latter now a focus of regulations, such as the Euro 7 standards.
With that attention has come a surge of information. When it comes to tyre wear emissions, some of the data is grounded in sound science, while some remains unsubstantiated or at an early stage, creating confusion about the nature and potential impact of these emissions. To cut through the clutter, we must follow the science.
The State of Knowledge (SoK) series offers the most comprehensive scientific assessment to date of tyre wear emissions and their potential impact.
