Liberty Tire Recycling announced the results of a months-long series of events in support of Blessings in a Backpack, raising $87,805 for the organization. The events included a charity golf tournament, six packing events, and company-wide lunch-and-learns.
Childhood food insecurity is a critical issue affecting an estimated 13.4 million children across the United States. While programs exist to support free meals to school aged children during the week, Blessings in a Backpack is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger on the weekends, ensuring that every child has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive every day.
This year, Liberty hosted their first ever charity golf tournament at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina to raise funds for Blessings in a Backpack. Liberty raised $87,805 through the outing and partner contributions. Half of these donations will support Blessings’ strategic growth plans while the other half made possible six packing events, resulting in the creation of 5,250 bags of weekend nutrition. The bags were packed by Liberty volunteers at six locations in September and October and delivered to local Blessings in a Backpack programs. Other Liberty sites participated through lunch-and-learns where they learned more about Blessings in a Backpack and were given the opportunity to write positive and encouraging notes, which were included in bags of weekend nutrition across the U.S.
“We are thrilled to receive Liberty’s generous support and have been honored to work with such kind-hearted and passionate employees. Liberty’s efforts will have a profound impact on the growth of our organization as well as an immediate effect on so many kids in need of weekend nutrition,” said Alexis Hartman, Manager of Corporate Partnerships at Blessings in a Backpack. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Liberty, for your dynamic support. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the years to come.”
Last year, Liberty Tire Recycling organized “Liberty Cares,” an employee committee dedicated to driving employee engagement and community involvement with a focus on environmental efforts, charitable events, food insecurity, and support of local families through holiday giving.
“We formed Liberty Cares because we are a part of the communities where we work and we want to support those communities—particularly the most vulnerable and needy,” said Thomas Womble, CEO of Liberty Tire Recycling. “I’m so proud of the money we were able to raise and all of the good that Blessings in a Backpack will be able to do with it.”
Employees from across the company helped to plan and staff the charity golf tournament, and volunteers from the following sites helped to pack backpacks: Atlanta, Georgia; Baytown, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; Godfrey, Illinois; Phoenix, Arizona; and Santa Fe Springs, California.
Liberty Tire Recycling is a full-service tire collection, processing, and manufacturing company with operations in every state and Western Canada. Liberty also supports communities across the country through tire cleanups and amnesty days, conducting 544 in 2023 alone.
